Some say it’s cursed and some say it’s just an accident. The submarine Titan has been missing since Sunday with five passengers on board at the exact spot where the luxury Titanic sank in the Atlantic more than a century ago. But the battle here is with time. As time goes on, Titan is running out of oxygen. Hopes of finding the missing submarine are fading.
The submarine, which is owned by the company called Oceangate, has launched this operation since 2021. In exchange for two and a half million dollars per head, they took it to the deep sea and showed the wreckage of the Titanic.
Last Sunday was one such sea expedition. The Titan plunged into the depths of the Atlantic near Newfoundland off the coast of Canada with five people on board. However, preparations had already begun. The explorers arrived at the scene first on a ship named Polar Prince. From there, the Titan dived to the bottom of the Atlantic. But an hour and 45 minutes into the journey, all contact with the Polar Prince was lost. Authorities quickly notified the Coast Guard and the Canadian Army. The Canadian army started the search by bringing down warplanes and ships. Two days have passed but Titan has not been found yet.
As far as it is known, the submarine had three millionaires. A British citizen living in Arabia is Hamish Harding. Hamish, 58, is an aviator and astronaut himself. He is the founder of an aircraft manufacturing company in Dubai. The other two are Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman. The three are accompanied by Oceangate CEO Stockton Rush and French aviator Paul-Henri Nargeolet (77). The former French naval officer took part in the first expedition to find the wreckage of the Titanic in 1987. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has assured to stand by the missing passengers.
But Ocean Gate is optimistic about finding Titan. According to them, this 21 feet long submarine has been made with the latest technology. The 10,432 kg Titan is capable of withstanding the tremendous pressure of water at a depth of 13,000 feet in the ocean. It also has a system that automatically sinks or floats to match that pressure. Along with Canada, the US Navy is also working hand-in-hand in the rescue of the Titan.
