Sometimes the housing collapsed like straw and sometimes the front part of the house opened like an onion peel. Lots of dead bodies scattered around. The whole world is witnessing the heart-wrenching scene of the strong earthquakes in Turkey and Syria
The onset of earthquakes
Strong earthquake in Turkey-Syria border region.
The number of people injured and killed continues to rise.
Many housings were destroyed (at least over 2,500 in Turkey alone).
The first strong tremor was near the Turkish city of Gaziantep. Around 4:17 am local time. Intensity is 7.8 on the Richter scale.
The second tremor was in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras province. By 1.24 p.m. Intensity is 7.5.
The third earthquake struck at 3:02 a.m. local time. The magnitude of the tremor was 6 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the tremor was the southern city of Goksan.
Several cities like Hatay, Osmaniye, Adiyaman, Malatya, Sanliurfa, Adana, Diyarbakır, and Kilis were destroyed by the earthquake. The historic Gaziantep castle, which is about two thousand years old, in Turkey was also crushed by strong tremors.
Turkey felt its first earthquake on a winter night when people were deep in sleep. At intervals of time, Turkis witnessed two more terrible tremors.
In the destruction of nature, a multi-story collapse like a house of cards is seen in Turkey. The existence of houses cannot be found.
There is no estimate of how many thousands of people are buried under the rubble. There is only crying all around.
The muffled sounds of women, men, and children are heard from inside the rubble.
Everyone is desperate to find their soul mate.
The picture in Syria is equally dire. Lines of broken homes and bodies in war-torn Syria are not new. However, the extent of these natural disasters left the war behind. Hospitals are overflowing with dead bodies. The number of injured and dead continues to rise. Many cities, including Aleppo and Damascus, were nearly destroyed by the earthquake.
After the earthquake, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent troops and rescue workers to the affected area. Power services and schools have been shut down in the affected area. Snowfall and aftershocks hampered the rescue efforts of the army and relief workers.
The infrastructure of war-torn Syria is already shaky, and the administration and international human rights organizations are worried about how to properly carry out rescue operations after this disaster. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has appealed to the country’s separatist groups to deal with the disaster together.
Various countries including India have extended their helping hand by sending relief and rescuers to Turkey and Syria. The earthquake damaged the entire airport including the runway in Turkey. As a result flight services are being disrupted.
Earlier, the 1999 earthquake that caused damage in northwestern Turkey, this earthquake is much worse than the previous one.
